Our law clerk, “K-Rod” (Kevin Rodriguez) has been a supporter of the City of Dreams project for several years, having mentored an at-risk 8th grader, asked us to spend some time and energy to help this non-profit charity deliver on its annual “Day of Giving” commitment to hundreds of kids in San Francisco housing projects. There were sponsors (getting the lists from the kids and going out and buying the toys – our firm), elves (wrapping the toys – K-Rod, Trevor, Malissa & Megan) and “Santas” (delivering the toys – K-Rod, Trevor, Heidi, Peter & family).
(There we are knocking on the door of a home full of kids). We braved the rain on Saturday and sledded from house to house in the Western Addition with bags full of toys the kids had requested, ornaments, and lights. There were many great moments – such as visiting a very grateful family whose children were in school (on a Saturday!) in order to get college scholarships (provided they completed the program). The family had fallen on hard times recently and this was just the ticket.
